Review of Selena s Concert at Grand Prairie

Dallas News gave a great concert review of Selena's concert in Grand Prairie on Friday. Selena also announced her first headlining tour will be next summer!

A fact became clear during Friday night's Selena Gomez concert at the Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie: Kids and tweens simply like her. That's all there is to it.

Maybe it's because of her hit Disney sitcom, The Wizards of Waverly Place. Or maybe it has to do with her catchy songs, which get lots of airtime on the channel and its corresponding satellite radio station.

It's not because she has the most powerful vocals of any Disney star around.

But did that matter? Not to the sold-out crowd, on its feet for most of the show. Through sheer likability, the 18-year-old Gomez proved that, like her Wizards character, she possesses her own kind of magic.

Wearing a flouncy, short skirt and black sequined top, Gomez started her set with the hit "Round and Round."

"How's my hometown doing?" she asked, receiving squeals in return. Her Thanksgiving feast, she added, included Southern food at her mom's, followed by tamales, rice and beans from her dad's side of the family. "So it was good."

Along with renditions of "Falling Down" and "A Year Without Rain," Gomez peppered her show with cover songs, including Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me," "Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield" and "In My Head" by Jason Derulo.

At one point, she stopped singing to recall the time she attended a Kelly Clarkson concert in the same venue.

"I remember sitting up there," she said, motioning to an area near the ceiling. (Former BFF Demi Lovato recalled the same memory when she performed on the stage in 2009, but named Gomez as her fellow concertgoer.)

"Now, because of you guys, I'm on this stage where Kelly Clarkson performed," she added. Later, she had a piece of advice for her fans: "Don't let anybody tell you that you can't do anything."
